PAPILLION- On Tuesday, April 8th, the Liberty Social
Hall in Papillion was the scene for the Sarpy County Republican
Women’s Soup Supper and Candidate Forum.
Several Republican candidates and their representatives gave
speeches about their campaigns and what they would do if elected
to office. Following the presentations, those attending
participated in a straw poll. In the District 39 poll,
Republican businessman Beau McCoy emerged victorious over Bill
Pulte and Bob Tingelhoff. Democrat Rex Moats did not participate
in the Republican event.
McCoy,
who is endorsed by Governor Dave Heineman, Attorney General Jon
Bruning and State Treasurer Shane Osborn, talked about the need
to reign in state spending in order to cut taxes and the need to
create quality jobs. McCoy strongly disagreed with the
legislature’s latest move to increase the tax on gas.
“When
I talk with families in the district, they are very concerned
about the price of gas. High fuel costs are causing increased
prices in the marketplace. The legislature’s move to increase
the gas tax will hurt Nebraska families and make putting
groceries on the table more difficult,” commented McCoy.
“If I
were in the legislature, I would not have voted for tax
increases. In these difficult economic times, we should be
easing the burden, not adding to it,” added McCoy.
Current District 39 Senator Dwite Pedersen a supporter both
Tingeloff and Moats, voted for the gas tax increase and to
override Governor Heineman’s veto.
